MANILA, Philippines — Senator Imee Marcos has contracted COVID-19, Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri announced on Monday.

Marcos, sister of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., who himself just recovered from coronavirus, is experiencing a “raging fever,” according to the Senate President.

Zubiri, after the roll call in the plenary session, said: “With 22 senators physically present and one senator virtually present — although Senator Imee Marcos, who, for the record, had written to us that she has tested positive for COVID-19 is asking if she should still have to go on cam because she has a raging fever.”

Marcos’ virtual attendance was acknowledged after she said she was listening in the session.

Zubiri and Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva extended their good wishes and prayers for Marcos’ recovery.

The other virtually present senator during the session is Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, who earlier tested positive COVID-19.

Following Cayetano’s infection, the Senate required visitors to submit a negative antigen test taken within 24 hours or a reverse transcription – polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test taken within 48 hours.
