Romualdez: Naming House committee chairmanships, members almost done

MANILA, Philippines — Speaker Martin Romualdez on Sunday said the House of Representatives has almost finished naming committee memberships and leaderships.

According to Romualdez in a statement, of the 64 standing committees in the House of Representatives, 50 have already been designated with their respective chairpersons, while all 64 have already been named their members.

On the other hand, 10 of the 15 special committees now have their respective chairpersons, while all but one of these committees have already been designated its member-lawmakers.

Once fully constituted, Romualdez said House committees can finally hold hearings on filed House Bills (HBs) and other measures.

He bared that during the House plenary sessions from July 25 to 27 and August 1 to 3, a total of 2,877 measures have already been referred to the various committees for deliberation consisting of the following: 2,7544 HBs, 119 House resolutions, seven House joint resolutions, five House concurrent resolutions, and two Resolutions of both Houses.

2023 National Budget

Meanwhile, Romualdez said that the National Expenditure Program (NEP) is expected to be submitted by Malacañang to the House of Representatives in the third week of August.

“Rest assured that the House will act immediately on the budget,” Romualdez said.

Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman earlier told the public that they will hand in the proposed P5.268 trillion budget for 2023 by August 22.

Under the 1987 Constitution, the President and his executive branch should submit the National Expenditures Program within 30 days after the delivery of the State of the Nation Address (Sona), which means the deadline for the submission of the proposed budget is on August 23 as Marcos delivered his Sona on July 25.
