Phivolcs: Over 3,000 aftershocks from Abra earthquake

The earthquake that rocked Abra and also swayed other parts of Luzon last July 27 has now affected 381,614 people and damaged P704.4 million worth of infrastructures

​​MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has so far recorded 3,097 aftershocks from the magnitude 7.0 earthquake that jolted the province of Abra. late last month.

Phivolcs said the aftershocks ranged from magnitude 1.4 to 5.1. 

The agency earlier warned that aftershocks may occur for several days and even up to months, after classifying the magnitude 7 earthquake in Abra as a “major earthquake.”

Meanwhile the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council pegged the number of affected or displaced individuals at over 500,000, while damage to infrastructure was estimated to have reached over P1.5 billion, as of Sunday.
