MANILA, Philippines — A total of 502,462 individuals have been affected by the magnitude 7.0 earthquake that hit Abra, said the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) as of August 7, Sunday.
According to NDRRMC’s latest situation report, this total translated to 136,612 families who are from the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, and the Cordillera Administrative Region.
The report also showed that the estimated cost of damage to different infrastructures in these regions rose to P1,593,861,827.11.
Meanwhile, the verified number of deaths due to the earthquake remained at 11, while recorded injuries also increased to 574.
Of the total affected, NDRRMC said 368 families or 1,310 individuals are still inside 20 evacuation centers, while 14,401 families or 52,028 individuals are not in evacuation centers (which NDRRMC said means they are staying at other places.)
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology earlier warned that aftershocks may occur for several days and even up to months.
