LTO mulls updating IT system after glitches cause delays

MANILA, Philippines – Amid reports of system glitches causing delays in their transactions, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) said that they are considering replacing foreign information technology (IT) contractor Dermalog.

“The public is complaining about the slow processing of driver’s license applications, which takes up to a week from its previous turnaround time of only two hours,” said LTO in a press release on Friday.

On top of the alleged poor performance, newly-seated LTO Chief Guadiz had been informed that Dermalog is also facing a theft case filed by their local partner Verzontal Builders, Inc (Verzontal).

Although Gaudiz is scheduled to meet with Dermalog next week to investigate the IT company’s action plan to improve their systems, he said they are already searching for other IT providers in a possible bid on system automation.
