CITY OF CALAPAN – Rep. Arnan Panaligan of Oriental Mindoro’s 1st district has filed again House Bill No. 2116 seeking to convert the Oriental Mindoro Provincial Hospital into the Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) Regional Hospital.

“The present provincial hospital is [currently] a service and training-oriented tertiary medical facility being managed by the provincial government,” said Panaligan in a Facebook post.

He said the hospital’s 150-bed capacity serves as the “catchment hospital” for patients needing tertiary specialty medical care from satellite hospitals and the rural health units in the province and neighboring provinces.

“Patients with serious medical conditions from the provinces of Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon are transported to this hospital,” he said.

Panaligan proposed that the planned regional hospital should be under the control and supervision of the Department of Health (DOH) to upgrade its facilities.

Under the DOH, Panaligan expects the hospital to have better services, additional staff, complete facilities and equipment.

He said the proposed hospital under the DOH would be spared from local politics. INQ
