PH logs 4,439 new COVID-19 infections, active tally now at 34,213

The Department of Health (DOH) logged an additional 4,439 cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, placing the current active tally at 34,213.

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) logged an additional 4,439 cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, placing the current active tally at 34,213.

This also further raised the country’s total caseload to 3,790,309 nationwide, with 3,695,323 recoveries and 60,773 deaths, based on the DOH’s COVID-19 tracker on its website.

These new cases are significantly higher, over 1,000 more than the average daily cases recorded from July 25 to 31 at 3,443.

Metro Manila continued to record the highest number of infections per region in the last two weeks with 14,879 cases, followed by Calabarzon at 9,507, then Central Luzon at 4,673.

Cavite also continued to top the list of areas with the most reported cases in the last two weeks at 3,249, followed by Quezon City, which recorded 3,219, and Laguna with 2,614.

Meanwhile, the tracker also showed that only 23,153 individuals were recorded to have been tested for COVID-19 on Wednesday.

The DOH earlier reported that the country’s positivity rate had jumped to 16.7 percent.

It also revealed that it had already recorded the country’s first two BA.2.75 cases of the Omicron subvariant, which is said to be more transmissible than its counterparts.
