MANILA, Philippines — A ten-wheel cargo truck careened out of control and turned on its side on Thursday morning, temporarily blocking the northbound lane of C-5–Kalayaan Interchange in Makati City.

In an advisory issued by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the accident involving a ten-wheeler occurred past midnight and was located along the C-5–Kalayaan Interchange just after the elevated u-turn slots.

MMDA enforcers were deployed to the site as the road was completely impassable. It was then partially cleared at around 7 a.m., allowing other vehicles to pass through one lane.

Traffic returned to normal at 9:25 a.m. after all lanes were finally opened to motorists.

According to the Southern Police District’s initial investigation, the truck was moving on its lane when another vehicle suddenly drove up to its front, causing the former to slow down and turn to the right to avoid a collision.

The truck then flipped over to its side before collapsing due to a failure or malfunction of the brake.

The driver and his passenger were then taken to the hospital after complaining of body ache.

“This particular incident will be referred to the Makati City Prosecutor’s Office upon completion of documents,” the police said in its report.
