Abra quake damage reaches P1.2B; affects over 400k people – NDRRMC

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Tuesday said 404,370 individuals have so far been affected by the magnitude 7.0 earthquake that hit Abra and several parts of Luzon.

MANILA, Philippines — The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Tuesday said 404,370 individuals have so far been affected by the magnitude 7.0 earthquake that hit Abra and several parts of Luzon.

According to NDRRMC’s latest situation report, this translated to 105,241 families who are from the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley and the Cordillera Administrative Region.

The report also showed that the estimated cost of damage to different infrastructures in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley and the Cordillera Administrative Region climbed to P1,252,288,371.81.

NDRRMC’s last situation report initially estimated the damage to be at P704,491,498.

Meanwhile, the verified number of deaths due to the earthquake remained at 10, as well as injuries at 394.

NDRRMC also reported that of the total affected, 979 families or 3,319 individuals are still staying inside 42 evacuation centers, while 12,308 families or 45,060 individuals are not in evacuation centers, which NDRRMC said means they are staying at other places.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology earlier warned that aftershocks may occur for several days and even up to months.
