MANILA, Philippines – Just days after introducing “Noynoying”, a militant group is at it again, this time calling President Benigno Aquino III “Noy-ngaling” in reference to his recent speech on protecting workers’ interests.
A Radyo Inquirer 990AM report on Monday said that members of militant group Partidong Manggagawa slammed the president’s speech at the Anvil Business Club last Friday wherein he declared the importance of upholding workers’ welfare.
PM chair Renato Magtubo pointed out how there was a “huge disconnect between [Aquino’s] words and deeds regarding workers’ interests… How come 2,400 Philippine Airlines (PAL) employees have been sacrificed by the Office of the President and the Labor Department on the altar of contractualization?”
The group urged the president to support bills on legislated wage and security of tenure at the House of Representatives, and direct the National Wages and Productivity Commission to act on wage petitions.
