MANILA, Philippines — The number of aftershocks following the magnitude 7.0 earthquake in Abra is now at 1132, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said Friday afternoon.
As of 4 p.m., state seismologists recorded 296 plottable tremors and 28 quakes that emitted energy strong enough to be felt.
The aftershocks ranged in magnitude from 1.5 to 5.0, Phivolcs said.
Among the latest aftershock is a magnitude 4.7 earthquake that struck 3 kilometers northeast of the town of Tayum in Abra.
It was initially tectonic and recorded at exactly 3:59 p.m. with a depth of 18 kilometers.
Phivolcs said Intensity IV was felt in Bucay and Tayum, while Intensity III was recorded in Sinait, Ilocos Sur. Meanwhile, it reported Intensity II in Bantay, Ilocos Sur.
Instrumental Intensities were likewise logged in the following areas:
Intensity III – Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
Intensity II – Sinait, Ilocos Sur
Intensity I – Laoag City and Pasuquin, Ilocos Sur
No damage and aftershocks are expected following the magnitude 4.7 earthquake, according to the agency.
However, on Wednesday morning, July 27, a strong earthquake rocked Lagangilang, Abra, sending tremors throughout Luzon.
The province of Abra has since been placed under a state of calamity.
