MANILA, Philippines — The COVID-19 warning system being implemented in the country is still under review, and so the current alert levels will remain in place, according to Malacañang on Friday.
“That would be called on by the [Department of Health] so we’ll have to wait,” Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said in a press briefing when asked if the coronavirus alert system has been tackled during the Cabinet meeting.
“Anyway, right now, it’s status quo. So we’ll maintain alert levels for now but the entire process is also continuously under review so we have to wait,” she added.

On July 19, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced his decision to retain the COVID-19 alert level system while new classifications on health restrictions are being studied.
He said the new coronavirus alert classifications must be more compatible with the “current milder strains that afflict the patients.”
DOH officer-in-charge Ma. Rosario Vergeire said they could develop a new COVID-19 warning system by the second week of August.
