MANILA, Philippines — Several areas in southern Luzon should brace for rain on Friday due to the low pressure area (LPA) and southwest monsoon or habagat, according to the state weather bureau.
In a Thursday afternoon public forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the LPA was last spotted 1,080 kilometers east of extreme northern Luzon.
It also noted that a tropical depression, moving northward at 25 kilometers per hour, is likewise being observed outside the Philippine area of responsibility.
The tropical depression is packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center, and gustiness of up to 70 kilometers per hour.
But Pagasa weather specialist Patrick del Mundo said only the LPA and southwest monsoon are so far affecting the country.
He then detailed that overcast skies and scattered rain showers will persist in parts of southern Luzon, particularly in the following areas:
- Bicol Region – Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Masbate, Sorsogon
- Mimaropa – Marinduque, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Palawan, Romblon, Palawan
Fair weather, on the other hand, is expected in Metro Manila and the rest of the country, according to Del Mundo.
“Sa nalalabing bahagi ng ating bansa, maaliwalas na panahon sa umaga hanggang sa tanghali ang mararanasan na may mga tsansa ng pag-ulan sa hapon o gabi dulot ng mga localized thunderstorm,” he said.
(In the remaining areas of the country, fair weather will prevail from morning to noon, but isolated rains due to localized thunderstorms may be encountered in the afternoon or evening.)
The state weather bureau has not issued any gale warning across the country’s seaboards, but it mildly cautioned about high coastal waters in eastern Luzon.
Meanwhile, Pagasa outlined the temperature range in the following cities and areas on Friday:
