LUCENA CITY — Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) operatives arrested three alleged members of a notorious criminal group and seized a cache of illegal firearms in Tiaong town in Quezon province on Thursday, July 28.
Armed with a search warrant, a team from CIDG-Calabarzon and local police swooped down on the hideout of Vicente Allermo Herrera, 52, in Barangay (village) Anastacia around 6:40 a.m., the CIDG said in its report posted on its Facebook around 5 p.m.
However, the authorities missed Vicente but arrested Ritzelda Reyes Herrera, 50; John Gilbert Reyes Herrera, 30; and Von Vincent Reyes Herrera. Their personal relationship was not specified in the report.
The report tagged Vicente and the arrested suspects as alleged members of the Manalo-Briones crime group, which has been involved in gun-for-hire and gun-running activities in the region.
The raiders reportedly seized three hand grenades without primary safety pins, three 12-gauge shotguns, three caliber .45 pistols, five caliber .38 revolvers, one US carbine, one caliber .9mm Hydra pistol, one caliber .22 magnum revolver, one caliber .45 Thompson submachine gun, 37 magazines for assorted firearms, 901 assorted bullets and 52 fired cartridges.
“The hard work of these operatives is seen through this accomplishment and never forget that the CIDG will be relentless in its pursuit against criminals who try evading the long arm of the law,” Police Major General Eliseo Cruz, CIDG chief, said in a statement.
The suspects were detained and will face criminal charges for illegal possession of firearms, explosives and ammunition.
