Cebu town promotes healthy cooking to constituents
CEBU CITY — A town in south Cebu on Thursday conducted a cooking contest to encourage people to cook and eat healthy food.
Mayor Rajiv Enad of Minglanilla town said the local government wants to make people aware how important it is to prepare and digest nutritious food.
“Parents should know how to prepare healthy food for their children,” he said.
The cooking contest held at the Minglanilla Sports Complex was part of the town’s Nutrition Month which carried the national theme of “New Normal na Nutrisyon, Sama- samang Gawan ng Solusyon.”
At least 12 of Minglanilla’s 19 barangays participated in the cooking contest.
Article continues after this advertisementAlso present during the event were Vice Mayor Lani Peña, Councilor Jenifer Lariosa uand Association of Barangay Council president Kap Crisanto “Lukdoy” Muaña.
Article continues after this advertisementThe winners in the kakanin category were Tubod (1st place); Ward 2 (2nd place); Tungkil (3rd place); Cuanos (4th place); and Linao (5th place).
They prepared bibingka sa kawali with crushed carrots, biko with bokayo, choco butternut palitaw balls, puto, and sikwate.
For the main dish category, Linao got the first prize for cooking utan baka, followed by Pakigne (2nd place); Guindaruhan (3rd place); Tungkil and Ward 1 (4th place); and Tubod 5th place).
They prepared fried vegetables with oyster sauce; humba with kugita; chopsuey; laing gabi; and sisig kinason.
Winners for the kakanin category received P14,000 (1st prize); P12,000 (2nd prize), P10,000 (3rd prize); P8,000 (4th prize); and P6,000 (5th prize).
On the other hand, winners for the main dish category received P15,000 (1st prize); P13,000 (2nd prize), P11,000 (3rd prize); P9,000 (4th prize); and P7,000 (5th prize)
