LUCENA CITY—Policemen in the Calabarzon region joined hands on Thursday to help the earthquake victims in Abra province.

Brigadier General Antonio Yarra, regional police (PRO 4A) chief, led the cops in preparing at least 1,000 packs of assorted relief goods at Camp Vicente Lim in Calamba City.

“As part of showing our sympathy to the dislocated families and victims of this unfortunate event, men and women of PRO 4A joined hands together to deliver humanitarian support to those in need,” Yarra said in Facebook post.

A magnitude 7 earthquake hit Abra at 8:43 a.m. Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered the immediate deployment of rescue and relief teams to Abra and affected areas in northern Luzon, where thousands of residents need help.

Five persons died, and 64 others were injured in the tragedy, said authorities.
