BAGUIO CITY—A female boarder at Barangay Zone 5 in Bangued town, the capital of Abra province, was killed when the wall in her dorm collapsed due to the strong earthquake Wednesday morning, according to authorities.

Arnel Garcia, a local disaster management officer, has not named the victim, noting that she was not a native of Bangued.

In a phone interview, Garcia said 44 other people in the province suffered injuries, most of them hit by falling objects during the tremor.

A magnitude 7 struck Abra and other parts of Luzon around 8:43 a.m. The epicenter was located 3 kilometers west of Abra’s Tayum town, which is a neighboring municipality of Bangued. INQ
