MRT, LRT-1, PNR back to normal operations after strong Luzon earthquake

LRT-2 resume operations after quake

MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Metro Rail Transit System 3 (MRT-3), Light Rail Transit System Line 1 and the Philippine National Railways (PNR) resumed train operations, after suspending it on Wednesday morning following a strong earthquake that struck Luzon.

According to the MRT management in its latest advisory, train operations resumed as of 10:12 a.m., on both north and south bounds, with 17 trains running.

The LRT-1, meanwhile, also resumed operations at 9:07 a.m, with trains limited to run at only 25 kilometers per hour (kph).

After completing a full assessment of operations, however, LRT-1 in its latest advisory said trains have also returned to their normal operations or at the running speed of 60 kph.

The PNR also reported at 11:38 a.m. in an advisory that it also resumed operations “after inspection and certification issued by the Engineering Department that the tracks are passable and safe for passenger operation.”

Meanwhile, LRT-2 train are still suspended. In its latest update, the LRT-2 management said it is still currently conducting provisionary service from V. Mapa to Antipolo station.
