Bongbong Marcos urges Filipinos to ‘unite, rise from the challenge’ after powerful Luzon quake

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. urged Filipinos to unite and hurdle the challenges brought by the powerful earthquake that jolted parts of Luzon on Wednesday.

Marcos Jr. urged Filipinos to stay alert, adding that the government is ensuring that quick response and assistance are extended to the victims.

“Kadagiti kakailiak nangruna ta Abra, agridamtayo ken umasideg kadagiti kameng ti gobyerno no agkasapulan iti tulong. Agmaymaysatayo a bumangon manipud kadaytoy a pannubok,” Marcos tweeted in Ilocano.

 Marcos said that the reports related to the earthquake were “saddening”.

“Sa kabila ng nakalulungkot na mga ulat tungkol sa pinsalang dulot ng lindol, ating sinisigurado ang maagap na pagtugon sa mga pangangailangan ng ating mga kababayang apektado ng sakunang ito,” he added.

(Despite the saddening reports regarding the damage from the earthquake, we are ensuring that we will quickly address the needs of our affected countrymen.)

Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said Marcos Jr. has ordered the immediate dispatch of rescue and relief teams to the affected areas.

The President will likewise visit Abra once an “all clear” signal is given, Cruz-Angeles added.
