Pagasa: Rain showers, cloudy skies on Wednesday due to 2 LPAs

MANILA, Philippines —  Two low-pressure areas (LPA) are expected to trigger rain showers in parts of  Luzon and the Visayas on Wednesday, according to the state weather bureau.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Grace Castañeda said one of the LPAs was tracked 235 kilometers west northwest of Dagupan City, Pangasinan.

This LPA, said Castañeda, will not escalate into a storm and is expected to dissipate in the next 24 hours.

“Ngunit inaasahan natin na ngayong araw magdudulot ito ng maulap na kalangitan at kalat kalat na pagulan, pagkulog at pagkidlat sa ilang bahagi ng Luzon, partikular ng Northern Luzon,” said Castañeda.

(It is expected to bring cloudy skies and scattered rain showers, thunder and lightning in some parts of Luzon, particularly Northern Luzon.)

Meanwhile, another LPA was spotted some 845 kilometers east of Itbayat, Batanes.

Castañeda said it is expected to strengthen the southwest monsoon, locally known as the “habagat,” which will trigger rain showers in large parts of Luzon and Visayas in the next few days.

“Samantala sa nalalabing bahagi ng Luzon, ineexpect na magiging bahagyang maulap hanggang maulap ang kalangitan with generally fair weather sa umaga hanggang tanghali,” said Castañeda.

(Meanwhile in the rest of Luzon, partly cloudy to cloudy skies are expected, with generally fair weather in the morning to noon.)

“Ngunit pagsapit ng gabi tumataas muli ang tiyansa ng pagulan (by night time the chance of rain increases again),” she added.

Rain and overcast skies will also prevail in the Zamboanga Peninsula in Mindanao due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ ).

The rest of Mindanao, and Visayas, on the other hand, will have slightly cloudy to overcast skies with chances of isolated rain due to the ITCZ and localized thunderstorms.

Tropical depression

Meanwhile, a tropical depression is also being monitored outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) some 2,265 kilometers east of Central Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

It is currently moving north northwest and is unlikely to enter PAR in the next few days.

Despite the presence of the three weather disturbances, no gale warning was raised by Pagasa, according to Castañeda, as only slight to moderate sea conditions are expected.
