Woman drowns after saving boy in Quezon beach resort

A 46-year-old woman died after saving a young boy from drowning in Tayabas Bay in Sariaya town, Quezon province on Sunday (July 24) afternoon.

LUCENA CITY–A 46-year-old woman died after saving a young boy from drowning in Tayabas Bay in Sariaya town, Quezon province on Sunday (July 24) afternoon.

Police said the victim, Juvelyn Cabrera, and her relatives arrived around 9:30 a.m. at the Ilang-Ilang Beach resort in Barangay Guis-Guis Talon for a picnic.

At around 4:30 p.m. two young boys in the family were swept away by waves into a deep portion of the sea.

Cabrera, who rushed to help the boys and managed to save one of them, drowned.

Investigators said Cabrera was pulled out of the water, given emergency treatment, and brought to Lucena United Doctors Hospital in neighboring Lucena City but was declared dead on arrival.

The other boy was saved by other beachgoers. INQ
