MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. spoke about his administration’s programs for solo parents during his first State of the Nation Address (Sona) on Monday.
“Hindi din natin nalilimutan ang mga solo parents at mga nanay na nahiwalay ng kanilang mga mister dahil sa karahasan,” Marcos Jr. said in his speech at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City.
(We would not forget the solo parents and mothers who have become separated from their husbands because of violence.)
He said his administration would bolster programs for women and children like counseling for victims of violence.
“Pagtitibayin natin ang programa sa violence against women and their children, kabilang na ang counselling para sa mga biktima katuwang ang ating mga LGU (local government units),” he said.
(We will bolster the violence against women and their children programs, including the counseling services for the victims, together with local government units.)
During the 2022 presidential campaign, Marcos Jr. vowed to improve the services of daycare centers in the country to help solo parents.
The President also said his administration would see to it that there will be enough funds for residential care centers in the country which cater to the vulnerable sector.
“Tiyakin din natin na may sapat na pondo sa halos pitumpung residential care centers at pitong non-residential care centers para sa vulnerable sectors at persons with disabilities na sumisilong dito,” he said.
(We will also ensure that we have enough funds for almost seventy residential care centers and seven non-residential care centers for the vulnerable sectors and pensions with disabilities living there.)
