Bongbong Marcos vows to build more int’l airports to boost tourism

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. vowed Monday to construct more international airports in the country to boost the tourism sector.

Marcos Jr. said during his first State of the Nation Address (Sona) that the tourism industry offers an “abundance of opportunities” in terms of employment and job creation.

“It is not only an important economic development tool but the abundance of opportunities that the sector creates in terms of regular employment and even job creation at a grassroots level is undeniable,” he said in his speech at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City.

“To boost our tourism industry, we will first and foremost make basic developments such as road improvements for easier access to tourism spots. We will also upgrade our airports and create more international airports to help decongest the bottleneck in the Manila airport,” he added.

Marcos Jr. also vowed to provide a more convenient way for travelers to go around the country “even to remote areas to help promote undiscovered tourist spots.”
