LUCENA CITY — A 61-year-old man died Friday (July 22) afternoon after he was hit by a passing Philippine National Railway (PNR) train in this city, authorities said.

Lt. Col.  Reynaldo Reyes, Lucena police chief, identified the victim as Noel delos Santos, a city resident.

Quoting witnesses, the police said Delos Santos was waiting in the store along the railroad track in Barangay Ibabang Iyam around 1:35 p.m. when he suddenly lay down on the steel track as the San Pablo-bound train was approaching and consequently ran him over.

“As a result, the victim’s body was dismembered,” the police said.

The police were still investigating the incident.

On July 14, a drunken male pedestrian also died after a passing train hit him while walking along the side of the railroad track in the same village.

The victim was rushed to a local hospital but died six hours later during treatment.

The PNR resumed the operation of the San Pablo-Lucena City line on June 25 after it ceased operations almost 10 years ago.
