BACOLOD CITY— The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will hold a special election on June 2 for the House seat vacated by the late Rep. Ignacio Arroyo.
The Comelec en banc set the date of the election after receiving a copy of House Resolution No. 2171, calling for a special election to fill up the seat vacated by Arroyo who died in London on Jan. 26.
The resolution was transmitted to the Comelec on Tuesday.
The special election would cost at least P10 million, said Negros Occidental provincial elections supervisor Jessie Suarez.
He said the Comelec head office had asked him to submit data on the number of voters and precincts in the fifth district of Negros Occidental in preparation for the special election. Carla P. Gomez, Inquirer Visayas
