Map of Cebu province. STORY: Cebu barangay frontliners to get P2,000 cash aid

CEBU CITY, Cebu, Philippines — Some 39,000 barangay frontliners in Cebu are receiving P2,000 each from the government to recognize their service during the pandemic and during disaster response operations when Typhoon Odette (international name: Rai) struck the province in December last year.

Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia said front liners, whom she described as “community heroes,” ought to be recognized for their efforts.

Half of the cash assistance will come from the national government, through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, while the rest will be funded by the provincial government.

Qualified to receive the financial aid are barangay health workers, nutrition scholars, day care workers, “tanod,” animal health aides, “lupong tagapamayapa,” gender and development officers, and traffic enforcers.
