LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte, Philippines — Mayor Domingo Ambrocio Jr. of San Nicolas town in Ilocos Norte province died of a heart attack on Wednesday. He was 51.
Ambrocio died in a hospital in San Fernando City, La Union province, people close to him said.
The Philippine flag at San Nicolas town hall was flown at half-staff to pay tribute to Ambrocio.
Local government employees waited in front of the town hall to pay their respects to the mayor. Sympathies and messages of condolences from Ambrocio’s colleagues and supporters also poured in.
“Thank you for your dedication, leadership and compassion for our ‘kakailian’ (provincemates),” said Ilocos Norte Gov. Matthew Marcos Manotoc in a Facebook post.
Ambrocio served as a town councilor and a provincial board member before he was elected mayor this year.
