Former transport secretary suffers heart attack, rushed to hospital

MANILA, Philippines – Former Transportation and Communication Secretary Leandro Mendoza was rushed to the St. Luke’s Medical Center at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig Saturday afternoon, after suffering a heart attack.

Former Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board chairman Thomas Lantion said that Mendoza, 65, was celebrating his birthday at a resort in San Juan, Batangas, when the attack happened at around 4 p.m.

“He needed to be airlifted to the hospital after he complained of feeling dizzy then suddenly lying down on the ground,” Lantion said in a telephone interview.

At present, Lantion said, Mendoza is under observation at the intensive care unit of St. Luke’s after undergoing some tests.

“His doctors say he is in a stable condition, but he needs to be observed for 24 hours,” he said.
