Mall to join Earth Hour anew
SM City Cebu, in cooperation with Radisson Blu Hotel, will once again join the Earth Hour on March 31.
When the clock strikes at 8:30 p.m., SM City Cebu and its tenants and Radisson Blu Hotel will turn off their lights.
Earth Hour is a global initiative where individuals, businesses, governments and communities are invited to turn off their lights for one hour to show support for the environment. The event began in Sydney in 2007, when two million people switched off their lights. By 2011, Earth Hour was reported as “the world’s largest campaign for the planet” with over 135 countries and territories participating in the celebration.
In SM City Cebu, Lupon Anduyo will perform before and after the lights off at the Northwing Atrium. Cebu City Hall officials and environment advocates will lead the ceremonial switching on and off of lights that will happen simultaneously in Radisson Blu Hotel.
A commitment wall will be setup at the venue to symbolize the continuing support of the government, nongovernment organizations and the private sector in reducing power consumption and saving Mother Earth.
World Wildlife Fund, initiator of the event, has partnered with SM Supermalls and started this campaign in 2007.
