Cops nab suspected rebel for murder in Central Visayas

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police arrested for murder a communist rebel who was Central Visayas’ fourth most wanted person during a manhunt operation in Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental.

In a statement on Monday, the PNP said Charlie Lastimoso Saliganan was collared by police authorities armed with an arrest warrant on Sunday morning in Brgy. Poblacion, Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental.

According to PNP officer-in-charge Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr., the suspect is a member of Squad 2, Revolutionary Mass Party Committee of South East Front, Komiteng Rehiyon in Negros, Cebu, Bohol, and Siquijor.

The arrest warrant was issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 43 Judge Neciforo C. Enot for the crime of murder under Criminal Case No. 2411, with no recommended bail.

“I commend our personnel for another unyielding effort to strengthen PNP’s all-out campaign against criminality. Your swift response is a solid evidence to the PNP’s underlying commitment to serve better and protect the people,” Danao stated.
