Metro Manila’s COVID-19 positivity rate spikes to 12.6% — Octa

MANILA, Philippines — The COVID-19 positivity rate in Metro Manila has risen to 12.6% as of July 16, independent pandemic monitor Octa Research Group said Monday.

Octa fellow Dr. Guido David said in a Twitter post that the capital region’s positivity rate increased to 12.6% on July 6 from the 10.9% recorded on July 9.

Octa also recorded a 35% increase in Aklan’s positivity rate on July 16, compared to July 9 when it was 26.9%.

The positivity rate refers to the percentage of people who were found positive for COVID-19 among the total number of individuals tested.

Other areas have likewise recorded an increase in positivity rates, with the following areas recording over 10% positivity rate, Guido said:

Batangas – 15.7% from 11.3%

Cavite – 19.8% from 15.9%

Iloilo – 14.2% from 11.2%

Isabela – 14.1% from 10.3%

Laguna – 22.6% from 18.1%

Nueva Ecija – 21% from 14%

Pampanga – 23.1% from 16.4%

Rizal – 18.5% from 16.6%

Tarlac – 27.6% from 16.7%

“Especially In provinces where positivity rates are very high (above 20%), the public is strongly advised to practice necessary caution to prevent COVID infection,” Guido wrote in a Twitter post.
