MANILA, Philippines — Senator Manuel “Lito” Lapid on Monday filed a resolution urging the Senate to laud the Philippine national women’s football team on its victory in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Football Federation Women’s Championship.
The Filipinas clinched the regional championship for the first time, beating Thailand, 3-0 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila City on Sunday evening.
“[T]he Philippine Women’s National Football Team deserves the highest praise and commendation for bringing honor and recognition to the country and for serving as an inspiration to future generations of Filipino athletes,” Lapid said.
(Being an athlete is not easy, especially when we are facing a pandemic. Extreme focus and determination are needed to be excellent in their respective fields. That is why we should salute and award our athletes who continue to give honor to the country.)
According to Lapid, the Filipinas’ triumph proves that Filipino athletes can keep up with the rest of the world.
He also said that the lady footballers are an inspiration for the Filipino community across the globe.
(More than the medal you will bring home, you inspired Filipinos. We are with Filipinos around the world in celebrating and honoring our new champions.)
