MANILA, Philippines — The weather bureau on Saturday spotted another low pressure area (LPA) lurking within the country’s eastern section.
As of 3 p.m. on Saturday, the LPA was located at 695 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, and is embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), which is affecting the southern section of Mindanao, according to the Philippines Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
The combined effects of the lower pressure area and the ITCZ will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in the regions of Davao and Soccsksargen, the weather bureau added.
It also warned of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rain because of the weather systems monitored.
In its forecast, Pagasa said partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms were expected to prevail in Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
Last week, the weather bureau said the LPA that may have become a tropical cyclone exited the Philippines, leaving the slightly weakened southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” to bring its effects in the western section of Luzon.
