Ship that ran aground during ‘Odette’ catches fire off Mactan Island

CEBU CITY — A ship that ran aground at the height of Typhoon Odette (international name: Rai) in December 2021 caught fire off Barangay Punta Engaño on Mactan Island early Saturday morning.

Nagiel Bañacia, head of the Lapu-Lapu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, said two crew members of M/V Trans Asia-1 sustained burns and were brought to a hospital in Lapu-Lapu City for treatment.

Bañacia said fire investigators have yet to identify the cause of the fire.

At least six crew members, he said, were on the ship when the fire occurred.
