2 Fil-Ams in titular bouts today

TWO Filipino-American fighters based in California will be involved in crucial fights south of the United States today, March 17 (Philippine Time).

Ana “The Hurricane” Julaton will defend her WBO female superbantamweight title against the interim belt holder Yesica Patricia Marcos of Argentina at the Amphitheater Juan Pablo II in Ciudad San Martín in Mendoza, Argentina.

Julaton weighed in at the division limit of 122 lbs while Mendoza weighed in at 120.8 lbs during the official weigh-in held one day before the title fight.

This bout will be the focus of extra attention because of the infamous post-fight riot last month in Buenos Aires immediately after Johnriel Casimero of the Omega Gym of Cebu beat Luis Alberto Lazarte by 10th round TKO to annex the IBF interim lt.flyweight title.

GMA Network announced on its website that they will air the bout, entitled “Laban ng Lahi Giyera sa Argentina: Ana Julaton vs. Yesica Marcos” on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Meanwhile in Mexico, Glenn “Boyet” Donaire weighed 113 lbs while Mexican Omar Salado stepped on the scales at 114 lbs for their battle for the vacant WBC Latino super flyweight title at the Auditorio Plaza Condesa, Mexico City.

Glenn is the older brother of WBO superbantamweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire. /Correspondent Rene Bonsubre Jr.
