MANILA, Philippines — Several areas in Metro Manila will temporarily experience water service interruptions from Friday until Saturday due to a damaged pipeline that needs to be repaired, according to Maynilad Water Services Inc.
Maynilad, in an advisory, said the cities of Manila, Makati, Parañaque, Pasay and Las Piñas will be affected by the service interruption.
Triple 8 Construction & Supply Inc., a third-party contractor for a draining project, accidentally broke Maynilad’s pipeline along Pureza Street corner Abad Santos in Manila, leading to a leak in the area.
“Dahil dito, kinakailangan magsagawa ang Maynilad ng urgent repair works sa lugar. Para magawa ito, kinakailangan i-dewater ang tubo at i-expose ang nasirang bahagi nito para sa maayos na assessment at repairs,” the water concessionaire explained.
(Maynilad needs to do urgent repair works in the area because of this. To do so, it is necessary to dewater the pipe and expose its damaged parts for proper assessment and repairs.)
It also noted: “Tinatayang aabutin ng 18 hanggang 36 oras ang aktibidad, depende sa laki ng pagkasira at ng pagkukumpuni na kailangan.”
(The activity is estimated to last 18 to 36 hours, depending on the size of the damage and repair needed.)
Although it committed to continue deploying mobile water tankers to deliver clean water, Maynilad still advised its affected customers to save enough water during the service interruption.
It likewise warned that water discoloration is possible once the supply is restored but if it happens, customers were instructed to let the water flow until it becomes clear. — Xander Dave Ceballos, INQUIRER.net intern
