BRIGHT Minds Active Learning Village (BMALV) will be crowned the first-ever champions in the players 6 of the 14th Aboitiz Football Cup today at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Subangdaku, Mandaue.
BMALV clinched the title over Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) by virtue of goal difference.
The players 6 category was played in a league-type format, which means the team with the most number of wins goes home with the title.
A win is given 3 points, a draw 1 and no points for a loss. In cases of a tie, the winner will be determined by goal difference.
Both teams had 19 points and identical 6-1-2 (win-draw-loss) records. However, BMALV had a goal difference of 16 while DBTC only had 10.
Meanwhile, the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) will be gunning for three titles today.
Categories that had more than 10 teams were played in a cup-type format, wherein the winner will be determined in a championship round.
This means the top teams in the groupings had to play in the quarterfinals (depending on the number of groupings) and semifinals round to get to the finals.
The Magis Eagles will be vying for the titles in the players 8, players 10 and the girls U-17 title.
In the players 8, SHS-AdC hopes to stop DBTC 1 from retaining its title.
In the players 10, the Magis Eagles will be defending its title against DBTC 4.
The title in the girls U-17, which follows a league-type format, will go to the winner of the match between SHS-AdC and Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion (CIC) M. /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
