MANILA, Philippines — Rain is expected to pour over Western Visayas and parts of Luzon on Friday due to the southwest monsoon, locally termed “habagat,” according to the state weather bureau.

In an early morning forecast, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Benison Estareja said the southwest monsoon is seen to bring about cloudy skies and scattered rain showers in Western Visayas while isolated precipitation will persist in the western section of Northern and Central Luzon.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience generally fair weather on Friday despite chances of rain caused by localized thunderstorms and the southwest monsoon, Estareja added.

Pagasa also said the public can expect a storm-free weekend, but reminded that two to three tropical depressions may still hit the country before the end of this month.

“Hanggang weekend, wala naman tayong inaasahan na bagyo or even low pressure area na papasok dito sa may loob ng ating Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) but take note po, bago matapos ang buwan ng Hulyo ay posible pa rin ang dalawa o tatlong bagyo sa loob ng PAR,” Estareja noted.
