MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) needs around P6.8 billion to clear the current backlog on license plate production, the agency’s officer-in-charge Romeo Vera Cruz disclosed Wednesday.
Vera Cruz admitted that its current backlog on license plates is huge, saying only Congress can provide funding to address it.
“Malaki ang backlog natin sa plaka. I think we need about P6.8 billion to address all of these backlogs—‘yung four-wheel tsaka motorcycle,” Vera Cruz said during the Laging Handa briefing.

“We need funding and only Congress can provide us with funding,” he added.
According to Vera Cruz, there is no problem when it comes to the production of the license plates.
“Walang problema sa pag-produce ng plaka because we have modern plate-making plant… Meron tayong robots na tinatawag, in addition to the manual embossing machines,” Vera Cruz said.

“Kayang-kaya po natin yung backlog kung meron tayong pondo (We can address the backlog if we have funds),” he added.
