MANILA, Philippines — The combined forces of the low-pressure area (LPA) off Batanes and the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, will shower parts of Luzon on Thursday.

The LPA was last seen 40 kilometers east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes as of Wednesday, 3 p.m., according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Cagayan will have overcast skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the LPA.

The same weather condition will be experienced in Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan but due to the habagat.

“Bukas, inaasahan pa rin na mararamdaman ang epekto ng low pressure [area] dito nga sa kanlurang bahagi ng Northern Luzon at ‘yung habagat patuloy pa ring iiral at makakaapekto dito sa may bandang Palawan area kasama na nga ‘yung Kalayaan Island,” Pagasa senior weather specialist Chris Perez said in a public weather forecast.

(Tomorrow, we expect to experience the effect of the LPA here in the western part of Northern Luzon, and the habagat will prevail and affect the Palawan area, including Kalayaan Island.)

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have fair weather conditions with possibilities of isolated rain showers.

Moreover, no gale warning is raised over the country’s seaboards.

However, individuals who will venture out at sea in the western section of Luzon are advised to take caution as coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

“Ibayong pag-iingat po sa mga kababayan nating papalaot dito nga sa western seaboard ng Luzon na inaasahan natin na magiging katamtaman hanggang sa maalon pa rin dahil sa pinagsamang epekto low pressure [area] at ng habagat,” Perez warned.

(Those who will set sail in the western seaboard of Luzon should be careful as we expect waves to be moderate to rough because of the combined effects of the LPA and habagat.)

The rest of the country’s seaboards, Perez said, will have a slight-to-moderate condition.
