MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.4 earthquake hit the seas off Sarangani near Balut Island on Wednesday morning, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
According to the Phivolcs, the epicenter of the quake was located 171 kilometers (km) southeast of Balut Island, Sarangani, Davao Occidental, and was recorded at exactly 6:40 a.m.
Seismologists said that the quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of 101 km.
No damage and aftershocks are expected, said Phivolcs.
