TACLOBAN CITY—The city government of Catbalogan in Samar province is offering cash incentives to senior citizens who will have themselves vaccinated against COVID-19.
In his order issued July 1, Mayor Dexter Uy said P500 would be given to senior citizens, who would have their first dose and P1,000 for their second.
Uy said the move was part of the city’s campaign to be placed under Alert Level 1 status.
Catbalogan and the rest of Samar province are under Alert Level 2.
For Catbalogan to be placed under a more relaxed alert level, Uy said they needed to inoculate 70 percent of its senior citizens as mandated by the National Inter-Agency Task Force.
Uy hoped that the cash incentives would encourage senior citizens in the city to have themselves vaccinated against COVID-19.
Of the 7,996 senior citizens in Catbalogan, 5,230 or 65.4 percent had been vaccinated against the virus.
