MANILA, Philippines — Airport operations at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) resumed after the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) lowered the lightning alert from red to yellow.
In an advisory Tuesday, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) announced at 1:28 p.m. that flight and ground operations at NAIA were suspended following a red lightning alert of Pagasa.
The alert is a safety measure taken to prevent untoward incidents from happening when lightning is prevalent in the immediate area and may endanger personnel, passengers, and even flight operations, according to the MIAA.
Less than 20 minutes later, at 1:45 p.m., Pagasa lowered the lighting alert to yellow, prompting the MIAA to announce the resumption of flight operations at the airport. — Iliana Padigos, INQUIRER.net intern
