PH’s active COVID-19 cases surpass 14,000

MANILA, Philippines — The number of people in the country currently sick due to COVID-19 reached 14,218 on Monday as the Department of Health (DOH) reported 1,660 additional coronavirus infections.

Based on the DOH’s COVID-19 tracker, the fresh cases raised the country’s total confirmed COVID-19 infections to 3,720,054, including 3,645,196 recoveries and 60,640 deaths since 2020.

While Monday’s new infections were lower than the 2,108 new cases recorded on Sunday, July 10, it is still higher than the 1,467 average daily infections recorded from July 4-10.

The DOH’s COVID-19 tracker also showed that Metro Manila remains the region posting the highest number of new infections in the last two weeks with 7,920 cases, followed by Calabarzon with 3,573, and Western Visayas with 1,511.

Quezon City, meanwhile, topped the list of cities with the most reported new cases in the last two weeks with 1,629, trailed by Cavite with 1,273 and Manila with 1,026.

Only 14,397 people were tested for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes severe respiratory illness COVID-19, on July 10, according to the DOH’s COVID-19 tracker.
