LPA has no direct effect, but ‘habagat’ to bring rains over parts of PH
MANILA, Philippines—The low pressure area (LPA) off Mindanao so far has no direct effect on the country, but the state weather bureau said overcast skies and scattered rains will still persist in several areas due to the southwest monsoon or habagat.
In forecast early on Saturday (July 9), weather specialist Ezra Bulquerin, of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), said the LPA was last monitored 825 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur province.
But according to him, sporadic rainfall expected in the following areas will be caused by the southwest monsoon affecting the eastern section of the country—Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Quezon, Rizal, Bataan, Marinduque, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Palawan, Romblon, and Western Visayas.
The habagat-induced weather conditions will also be experienced in Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Region, Cotabato, Sarangani, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Sulu, and Tawi-tawi.
Generally fair weather with chances of isolated rain showers is seen to prevail in the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, Bulquerin added.
Pagasa has not raised any gale warning over the country’s seaboards, indicating safe sailing conditions across the archipelago.
