MANILA, Philippines—The low pressure area (LPA) off Mindanao so far has no direct effect on the country, but the state weather bureau said overcast skies and scattered rains will still persist in several areas due to the southwest monsoon or habagat.

In forecast early on Saturday (July 9), weather specialist Ezra Bulquerin, of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), said the LPA was last monitored 825 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur province.

But according to him, sporadic rainfall expected in the following areas will be caused by the southwest monsoon affecting the eastern section of the country—Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Quezon, Rizal, Bataan, Marinduque, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Palawan, Romblon, and Western Visayas.

Generally fair weather with chances of isolated rain showers is seen to prevail in the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, Bulquerin added.
