The state weather bureau on Friday spotted a low pressure area (LPA) off Mindanao, which could potentially become a tropical cyclone.
The LPA was located 570 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, based on the 4 p.m. bulletin of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.
For now, the LPA has no direct effects over the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) and the southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” remains the dominant weather disturbance in the country especially on the western section.
Ordinario said that based on their analysis, a storm is expected inside PAR by next week.
Due to the effects by the southwest monsoon, the regions of Cordillera, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Metro Manila, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, and Soccsksargen, can expect cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.
