2 dead, another hurt in Batangas road accident

LUCENA CITY — A motorcyclist and one of his back-riders died in a road accident in Nasugbu town in Batangas province on Thursday (July 7), police said Friday.

The Batangas police reported that William Baon was driving a motorcycle at around 6:15 p.m. with Christian Sevilla and Renante Baon as back-riders in Barangay Calayo.

While traversing a descending curved portion of the road, the motorcycle driver lost control of the vehicle, hit the steel post marker and consequently went straight on the roadside canal.

Due to the strong impact, William Baon and Sevilla sustained severe head and body injuries. Both died on the spot.

Meanwhile, Renante Baon also suffered a head injury and was rushed by rescuers to Jabez Medical Center for treatment.

Staff Sergeant Wilson Mendoza, the case investigator, said the fatalities had “half-face” crash helmets.

“Unfortunately it was not enough to protect them from the fatal impact,” Mendoza said over the phone.
