Just seven days after his retirement, former Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana has been appointed as the new chair of the Board of Directors of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA). “The Department of National Defense congratulates former Secretary of National Defense Delfin N. Lorenzana on his appointment by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. as the chair of the Board of Directors of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority,” the DND said in a statement on Thursday. The 73-year-old retired Army general served as defense secretary during the Duterte administration. He will replace Gregorio Garcia III at the BCDA. The BCDA is mandated to help strengthen the Armed Forces of the Philippines to develop former military bases and properties to economic centers and communities. It is one of the sources of funding for the military’s modernization program. —Frances Mangosing
