Macasieb tests mettle in tough X-Terra Extreme Triathlon race
Arland Macasieb, one of the country’s toughest triathletes, the Ironman 70.3 Philippines defending Filipino Elite champion and 15-time Iron Man will leave the smooth, paved roads to test his mettle in extreme off-road triathlon as he competes in the X-Terra Extreme Triathlon this Sunday in Lilo-an, Cebu.
After deciding to shift into the more challenging extreme triathlon, Macasieb who for years dominated plain triathlon, will try to push his limits in the second installment of one of the country’s biggest and most popular triathlon races.
“X Terra is not much about fitness but more about skills. Unfortunately I have not been on a mountain bike that much but I am hoping I can pull out a good race,” said Macasieb.
After joining the X Terra in Guam where he finished a respectable 22nd place, Macasieb is aiming to improve his rankings by using a reliable equipment.
Macasieb will represent Team Vellum by using the brand’s high caliber mountain bike to traverse the harsh off road trail in Lilo-an which marks his second successive Xterra participation.
“It’s exciting to have Arland ride for Vellum again. His track record and accomplishments as a triathlete for the Philippines have been amazing. We look forward to his participation this weekend,” said Chris Aldeguer, President and CEO of Vellum Cycles.
Meanwhile, Macasieb will hold a multi-sport clinic and efficient running lecture today at the J Centre Atrium starting at 6 p.m.
