MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. met with energy officials amid skyrocketing fuel prices – mainly caused by the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine – that are driving up inflation in the country.

Marcos, who has yet to name his energy secretary, met with the energy officials in Malacañang based on photos uploaded on his social media on Thursday.

“Sa pandaigdigang krisis ng pagtaas ng presyo ng langis, isa sa magiging mahalagang kasama natin sa pagtugon ay ang Kagawaran ng Enerhiya,” Marcos said.

(One of the key players working alongside us to respond to the global crisis of rising oil prices is the Department of Energy.)

“Masusing tinalakay ang ating mga susunod na hakbang at ang magiging direksyon ng departamento,” he added.

(We tackled the next steps and direction of the department.)

The Palace has yet to release other details regarding the meeting.

For his part, Marcos has not named an energy secretary, but his press secretary Atty. Trixie Cruz-Angeles said the President is now in the “final evaluation stage” of completing his Cabinet.

Aside from the Department of Energy, other vacant Cabinet posts include the Department of Health, the Department of Science and Technology, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development.
